Makeup settles into fine lines when skin is dehydrated, products are too heavy, or layers don’t fully set before the next step. The fix is usually less product, more targeted prep, and smarter placement—especially around the eyes, smile lines, and forehead.
Fine lines look deeper when skin is dry. Apply a lightweight moisturizer and give it a minute to absorb. If you use a hydrating serum, keep the layer thin so base products don’t slide. In the morning, a quick mist or damp sponge press can help settle skincare without adding extra thickness.
Instead of priming your whole face, focus on line-prone areas. A smoothing primer can blur texture, while a gripping primer can help foundation wear longer—choose one based on whether you need smoothing or hold. Apply a rice-grain amount and press it in, rather than rubbing, to avoid pilling.
Thick foundation and full-coverage concealer are the most common culprits for creasing. Use a thin layer of foundation, then spot-correct. For under-eyes, place concealer only where there’s darkness (usually the inner corner and a small triangle), then blend outward so less product sits in lines.
Powder can prevent migration, but too much powder makes lines look more pronounced. Use a small fluffy brush to tap a minimal amount of finely milled setting powder only where you crease. For drier skin, consider setting spray instead of extra powder, then gently press with a sponge to melt layers together.
If creasing happens, don’t add more product on top. Smooth the area with a clean fingertip or cotton swab, then lightly re-set with the tiniest dusting of powder (or a mist of setting spray) to refresh without buildup.
